ADMISSIONS ESSAYS MATTER
Admissions essays and resumes enable students to display writing skills, highlight personal qualities, and demonstrate “fits” with particular kinds of education and courses of study. These versatile application components empower students. Polished writing can sway admissions officers in cases where grades, test scores, references, extracurricular activities, and internships fail to distinguish among well-qualified candidates.
SKILLED TUTORING MATTERS
Chevy Chase Prep’s lead essay coach is a specialist in rhetoric and composition. She has facilitated improvements in secondary school writing assessments, supervised college writing tutors, and reviewed essays and writing samples to make competitive college admissions decisions. She truly enjoys guiding students in the writing process, from creatively brainstorming topics, to crafting clear, concise, and mechanically sound expositions, to fine-tuning and submitting polished pieces of work.
SAT ESSAYS MATTER, TOO
Also, Chevy Chase Prep offers individual and small group workshops for the new SAT essay. Like high school document-based questions (DBQs), essay prompts focus on sets of texts from published sources. Drawing on close readings, writers are expected to produce theses, analyze sources, and establish connections between them, integrating extra-textual knowledge. We employ authentic documents and prompts in demonstrating how authors use evidence, reasoning, and rhetorical devices to build persuasive arguments.
